Nurses recognised in the 2026 new year honours list

Nurses from across the UK were named in the King's new year honours list for their outstanding commitment to patients and the profession. Those recognised include Northern Ireland’s chief nursing officer, a former NHS England regional chief nurse, a specialist nurse for thalassaemia, the chief executive of a mental health trust and the director of the RCN Foundation. Also named,  for services to nursing and patient outcomes, was a nurse who had faced discrimination because of her race and for whistleblowing. The RCN president said seeing those working in the profession being honoured was a moment of great pride.
